Who’s page is this?

Hello there, I’m Jas Shah. A lifelong Fintech & Product geek and writer of Fintech R&R, a fortnightly Refinement and Retrospective of a single Fintech or hot topic from an experienced Product person's perspective. With puns and some fun thrown in for good measure. And possibly more alliteration.

I’ve been in Fintech as a Product professional most of my career after initially starting out as an engineer on a trading desk and have been fascinated with technology from a very early age.

I’ve worked for and built products at some big companies (Citibank, Schroders, Fidelity) and more recently use my product and fintech expertise to get a number of startups and early neobanking propositions from zero to one.

And What is Fintech R&R?

Fintech R&R is a fortnightly Refinement and Retrospective into a single fintech or hot topic each week, provide insights into good and bad practices and give a bit more detail on what it takes to ideate, design, build, launch and scale a Fintech Product.

Its read by product leaders, founders and fintech enthusiasts from banks, fintechs, consultancies and VCs from across the globe. Including leaders and fintech operators from Stripe, FIS, Marqeta, Thredd, Barclays, Lloyds, Visa, Mastercard, Monzo, Revolut, Wise and many more so you’re in good company!

Not only is it a Refinement & Retro, but it’s also a Restful & Relaxing read. Or at least that’s the aim!

So if you like a knowledge packed but fun read with puns and probably some movie references, want to learn more about Fintech or Product, OR just want an interesting read, then this is the newsletter for you!

These write-ups are usually on subjects that have yet to have extensive coverage through a product lens and are detailed but also have a peppering of puns, gifs and movie references because it makes them more fun to read (and fun for me to write).

To get a taste of what's to come, check out some of my previous popular reads:

  • Getting Personal with Finance Management 2.0 - The evolution of PFM apps, what the next phase (with Open Banking developments) holds, the Jobs-to-be-Done of personal finance and Positive Friction in fintech journeys. A great edition for anyone working in or building the next iteration of Personal Finance tools.

  • To Embed or not to Embed - A dive into the world of Embedded Finance, key considerations when embedding and the big use cases on the horizon.

  • The Future of Finance is…Open - Open Banking, it’s unfair bashing and how Open Banking will be a key part of the future of Finance.

  • Financial Services In The Line of Consumer Duty - The new guidelines form the FCA that’ll shake up the Fintechs and Banks build products, better serve customers the long-term beneficial impact and a reference to the Region-Beta Paradox.
